This 1957 Porsche 356A coupe was acquired by the current owner approximately two years ago and has since been refurbished, including a repaint in black and a reupholstered red leather interior. Power is supplied by a replacement 1.6-liter flat?four paired with a four?speed manual transaxle with a taller fourth gear, and additional equipment includes a Dansk muffler, a ZF steering box, a luggage rack, adjustable shocks, 15? Boyd Coddington wheels, a front sway bar, and LED lighting. This 356 is now offered on dealer consignment by Mohr Imports, a BaT Local Partner, as part of their Monterey Car Week Collection, with a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, a copy of the Kardex, a Stoddard tool kit, and a clean Montana title.
The Reutter?bodied coupe left the factory in Silver Metallic (5606), and the selling dealer tells us that it was stripped to bare metal before being repainted black during the refurbishment by Santa Fe Body and Paint in Olathe, Kansas following completion of metal work by J3 Restorations of Nashville, Tennessee, while brightwork was re-chromed by Space Coast Plating of Melbourne, Florida. Equipment includes headlight grilles, a luggage rack, LED bulbs, and a Talbot driver-side mirror. The amber driving lights are not hooked up.
Polished 15×5? Boyd Coddington alloy wheels are mounted with 185/65 BFGoodrich tires. The brakes were rebuilt during the refurbishment and feature polished drums at each corner. Suspension incorporates Spax adjustable shocks, adjustable spring plates, and a front sway bar along with a rear camber compensator bar. A ZF steering box has been installed.
The adjustable front bucket seats were reupholstered in red leather with black piping by Autos International of Escondido, California, during the refurbishment, and the rear seat, side panels, and door panels were trimmed to match. Charcoal carpets line the floors, and three-point front seatbelts are fitted.
A black steering wheel with a chrome horn button fronts VDO instrumentation that was overhauled by Palo Alto Speedometer, consisting of a central 6k?rpm tachometer, a 120?mph speedometer, and a combination gauge for oil temperature and fuel level. The five?digit odometer shows 84k miles, which is not considered to be accurate. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 1.6-liter flat-four features dual carburetors and an unstamped 912-style case. The electrical system has been converted to 12-volts and a YnZ wiring harness installed.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a later 356A Type 716 four?speed manual transaxle with a taller fourth gear. A dual-outlet Dansk muffler with chrome tips has been added.
The Porsche Production Specifications certificate lists factory colors as well as a production completion date of March 1957. A copy of the Kardex is viewable in the gallery.
